Fit for an Egyptian Queen // Measurements below for you, this one should fit up to around a 1X/XL
My Auntie Irene has been sewing longer than I’ve been alive, so we’re just getting started rolling out some of her many creations. Today we have this beautiful bathrobe she’s handmade out of one of the most unusual vintage chenille bedspreads I have ever seen.
Captivating exotic emerald green, tangy tangerine, pops of juicy lemon and cool white designs adorn a heavyweight cotton groundcloth that is in my opinion perhaps a light to medium orchid with hints of pink undertones. Take a close look at some of these designs – isn’t it like a psychedelic trip back in time to the good old days of California dreamin?
The condition of the vintage chenille here is beautiful and when it comes to anything vintage, I don’t feel confident saying that too often. However, this has brilliant colors, excellent quality base cloth, neat, intricate tufting, and an all-around well-detailed design. She also used a shimmering blended thread which makes for a vivid presentation when you examine it closely.
I wish I knew more about this spread, but none of us seem to remember where it came from or any history on it, so it shall remain a mystery I suppose. I can say that of the too-numerous-to-count chenille bedspreads we’ve amassed over the years, I have never had or seen one in this most unusual color.
This is also a color that will be perceived differently between persons (most are; this one will be even more so); however, I would say that the color I’m viewing on my monitor is true to the in-person hues, particularly photo #1.
This robe is done in a modern, straight shawl-collar wrap style so this has a more comfortable fit than the fitted varieties of the past such as you would see with some of the other robes we’re starting to list. This is a full-length bathrobe and it fits up to about a XL // 1X, with measurements as follows: 56″ Bust | 56″ Waist | 51″ Length | 22″ Sleeves with cuffs rolled down.
I did not spot any major damages to call but bear in mind these are made with original chenille spreads so you are going to see various little flaws here and there that are natural and a testament to the age of the fabric. Only thing to make note of is that this is most certainly a heavyweight chenille with dense perky tufting on a very high quality ground cloth. So if you are wanting a lighter weight or summer robe, or if you suffer from back problems that make wearing heavy garments uncomfortable, I would not recommend this.
❃vintage items are never perfect – but they display their imperfections perfectly!
